About the role As K92 expands our Kainantu underground gold mine, we now seek to add a Project Controls Engineer to our Corporate Projects team in Brisbane. With further expansion projects upcoming as well as sustaining capital projects through 2026 and 2027 this newly created role contributes to our continuous growth and forward planning for our PNG projects. In this role you will be responsible for providing accurate, timely, and comprehensive project performance data to support effective decision-making. This role ensures the integrity of project planning, scheduling, cost control, and reporting processes throughout the project lifecycle. By implementing robust controls and monitoring systems, the Project Controls Engineer helps maintain alignment between project objectives, resources, and execution strategies, mitigating risks and optimizing outcomes.
Key Accountabilities
Set up, configure, and operate the Primavera P6 planning system, provide guidance and quality assurance for P6 interfaces established at Portfolio planning and Project level
Review contractor and consultant schedules as submitted and incorporate into the current master schedule
Working with departmental, construction, project management personnel and contractors to review project execution and construction plans for integration in overall project schedules
Actively participate in the Change Management process through the review and analysis of the Scope book, WBS, Work and Procurement packages
Analyse impacts of unforeseen/unplanned events to the current master schedule
Communicate potential schedule conflicts or overruns in a timely manner
Provide suggested mitigating actions to relevant stakeholders
Provide schedule reports (Gantt chart, tabular and dashboard, schedule commentary) to the project team
Participate in review of tender schedules
Provide schedule impact assessment for trends and scope changes
Organise and chair progress meetings/schedule updates
Communicate minimum standards for progress, schedule forecasting required from construction contractors
Setup, configure and operate the Project Control System, provide guidance and quality assurance for interfaces established with any EPC delivery systems and, K92 systems
Lead the preparation, updating and management of all levels and types of cost control reporting
Interface with project stakeholders to develop, monitor, control and report project costs and quantities
Import quantity and deliverable progress data into the Project Control System from the different Kainantu and Contractor sources
Review major deviations from the budget
Conduct cost forecast reviews, budget reviews and cost risk reviews
Apply cost control work processes to procurement and contract packages
Establish and maintain Earned Value Management (EVM) systems.
Track KPIs such as cost performance index (CPI) and schedule performance index (SPI).
Prepare, monitor, and maintain project budgets and commitments
Prepare, monitor, and maintain cash flow plans and forecasts and charts
Coordinate forecast updates by disciplines and contractors, including providing trend analyses and corresponding risk analysis
Review the Project Expenditure Request (PER) preparation as per the Project Expenditure Request Procedure
Monitor commitments and ensuring that no commitments are made to the Project that exceed the current budget or approved PER level without written approval by the Project Manager
Cost impact assessments that support package forecasting and the trend process
Produce accurate and timely progress reports for stakeholders.
Provide variance analysis and explain deviations from plan.
Complete earned value and productivity analysis and reporting
Generate timely package cost and manhour forecasts
Determine package incurred costs and accruals for reporting
Cost control and reporting of Owner’s managed costs.
Develop and provide training / guidance to junior Projects Team members
Continuously improve the department project controls system
Development/improvement of Power Bi Interface in conjunction with others
About You Ideal applicants will be degree qualified or hold a diploma in Engineering, Construction Management or related area, in addition you will have the following skills and experience
Additional qualifications in project management are desirable
Minimum of 5 years experience in project controls, planning or cost engineering
Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 and Microsoft Excel
Excellent analytical and communication skills, with focus on accuracy, clarity and outcomes
Knowledge of Project Cost Management system
Knowledge of financial reporting systems - Pronto & CMS is desirable
