Your opportunity:
Council is seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional Environmental & Laboratory Coordinator to lead the day-to-day operations of the Whitsunday Water Laboratory Services. This role is critical in ensuring Water, Sewerage and Waste operations are delivered in strict compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements.
You will be responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, managing environmental licences, coordinating monitoring programs, and ensuring accurate reporting within mandated timeframes. This position provides specialist technical advice and plays a key role in maintaining Council's commitment to public health, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage, develop and implement Council's Drinking Water Quality Management Plan.
2. Oversee the day-to-day operations, performance and compliance of the water laboratory and laboratory technician.
3. Manage Council's environmental licences and associated compliance obligations.
4. Liaise with and report to regulators to ensure all regulatory requirements are met.
5. Design, prepare and manage monitoring programs for technical and operational activities.
6. Compile, analyse and interpret monitoring data and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
7. Identify, develop and implement short- and long-term improvements to management systems, including processes, procedures and reporting frameworks.
About you:
You will bring strong technical expertise in water quality, environmental compliance or laboratory operations, along with demonstrated experience working within a regulated environment. You will have excellent analytical, reporting and stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to manage multiple compliance obligations within strict timeframes.
Your skills and experience:
Essential
1. Degree, Diploma or substantial experience in relevant technical field.
2. Water and Waste Water Industry Experience.
3. C Class Manual Drivers Licence.
4. Extensive knowledge of NATA requirements.
