Blackline Structures is one of SEQ's fastest-growing suppliers of light gauge steel framing, structural steel, and aluminium fabrication. With an integrated offering and a 2,000sqm modern facility in Yatala, we support builders, developers and retail clients across residential, commercial, and modular markets — delivering entire structural packages in-house.
Due to exciting growth, our business has an immediate requirement for a technically minded Design Manager to support our increased pipeline of work.
About the Role
The Design Manager is a key senior technical management role which leads the design and detailing function of our business. As a departmental Team Leader you will drive the operational flow of technical documentation through from concept to site. You will be expected to:
* Lead and manage the detailed design and documentation of high-quality framing solutions in both Light Gauge & Structural Steel.
* Manage the preparation of detailed site files for the construction, factory or fabrication teams or external contractors.
* Manage and oversee the proper engagement of subcontractors and consultants, ensuring client outcomes are achieved while the company's interests are protected.
* Engage with key consultants such as architects, engineers, builders, project managers and contract administrators and other similar professionals to ensure all project requirements are met or exceeded.
* Provide technical leadership in design integration, value management, feasibility and clash detection, and operational excellence in design software, file management and engineering best practice.
* Provide detailed reporting for review by management, estimating and construction teams and actively implement strategies to refine and improve detailing processes and techniques.
* Plan and allocate tasks to ensure deadlines are met or exceeded.
* Monitor, manage and promote safe methods of work in accordance with the company's Work Health & Safety policies.
About you
Demonstrated experience in a production, construction or manufacturing environment focused on construction detailing and engineered design.
* A minimum of 5+ years of design, detailing, drafting or engineering management experience is required.
* Excellent communication skills and high attention to detail. Working understanding of LGS and steel detailing processes. FrameCAD or similar experience would be viewed with particular interest.
* Ability to lead and manage high performing teams, and work alongside high performing sales, production and construction management personnel.
* A strong understanding of residential and commercial construction methodology and framing systems, National Construction Code, NASH Standards, AS/NZS 4600 and AS 4100.
* Ideally tertiary qualified in Construction, Drafting, Design, Engineering, Technical Drawing, Project Management or another building related discipline, or another qualification or relevant experience deemed to be equivalent.
