Payroll Officer

Are you a highly skilled payroll professional looking to make a meaningful impact beyond the numbers? Catholic Education Tasmania is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to deliver accurate, timely and high-quality payroll services while supporting our schools and communities.
As a Payroll Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth delivery of payroll services across the Tasmanian Catholic Education Office (TCEO) and Shared Funded Catholic Schools. This is a hands-on, autonomous role where your expertise will be valued in complex payroll processing, advisory support, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Beyond payroll, you’ll contribute to a purpose-driven organisation that supports learning outcomes for students across Tasmania.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage end-to-end payroll processing with precision and efficiency
* Perform complex calculations including back pay, salary adjustments, leave payments and entitlements
* Ensure compliance with taxation, superannuation and legislative obligations
* Resolve payroll issues and identify system improvements
* Prepare reports, data insights and payroll reconciliations
* Provide expert advice, mentoring and support to school payroll staff
* Deliver training workshops and develop payroll resources
* Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders
What you will bring
Proven experience in end-to-end payroll processing
* Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance requirements
* Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills
* Ability to work autonomously and manage complex tasks
* High-level communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* A proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement
Essential requirements
* Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field
* Extensive payroll experience and proficiency in payroll systems
* Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office, HR/Payroll systems)
* Valid Working with Vulnerable People Registration
* Current Tasmanian driver’s licence
Desirable: Experience within an education environment
