**The Opportunity**

The Research Officer in Biodiversity Data Science position at Monash University is in the School of Biological Sciences. Monash University is globally renowned for excellence in research and education. Our ARC SRI Securing Antarctica's Environmental Future (SAEF) program is a leading international initiative focused on forecasting environmental change in Antarctica. Through interdisciplinary research, we aim to implement effective stewardship strategies, ensuring the region remains a natural reserve dedicated to peace and science. With 30 global organisations and over 50 researchers involved, we are shaping the future of environmental policy in the face of climate change.

We are looking for a Research Officer in Biodiversity Data Science to join the team working on climate change impacts on biodiversity, biological invasions, and biodiversity policy on a global scale, including on Antarctica. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge environmental and biodiversity data science projects. You will play an integral role in maintaining research equipment, overseeing field activities in the Antarctic, and ensuring a safe and compliant research environment.

**Key responsibilities include but not limited to**:

- Plan, implement and coordinate a range of research and administrative tasks including providing laboratory/research support services, scheduling bookings, administering trials, experiments, treatments or questionnaires, data collection, input and analysis and preparing results in accordance with established research objectives, timeframes and protocols
- Provide supervision, training and guidance to staff where applicable, including overseeing compliance with technical or research standards and protocols
- Keep abreast of developments, activities and protocols in relevant research areas through liaison with staff and peers, reading relevant literature and attending meetings and seminars
- Prepare reports and other documentation for research leaders, committees, funding bodies and other relevant stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with established research methodology, policy, protocols, OHS and regulatory requirements and take steps to identify and minimise OHS risks where appropriate
- Actively participate in and implement continuous improvement activities relating to project, research or technical procedures and quality assurance standards
- Build and sustain effective working relationships with a network of colleagues, research collaborators and other stakeholders to support and facilitate research objectives
