Your new local council
A respected local government authority in Melbourne's inner suburbs is seeking an experienced Drainage Engineer to join their team on a casual basis. This role will provide essential support to ongoing infrastructure, planning, and stormwater management activities. As this is a backfill position, the contract duration is not fixed and will be dependent on operational requirements.
Your new role
The successful candidate will be involved in a broad range of civil and drainage engineering tasks, including:
Assessing development and drainage plans for compliance and technical accuracy
Conducting site inspections and investigations relating to drainage and stormwater assets
Undertaking catchment analysis to support strategic planning and infrastructure projects
Interpreting and applying flood modelling data to inform decisions and recommendations
Preparing high‑quality written reports, correspondence, and technical documentation
Liaising with internal stakeholders, consultants, and members of the public as required
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, you will need to demonstrate:
Proven experience in drainage engineering within local government or a similar environment
Strong background in plan assessment, site investigation, and catchment analysis
Ability to confidently interpret flood modelling and hydrological data
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities
