About the role
Busselton Water is seeking a motivated Work, Part Time Health and Safety (WHS) professional eager to make a meaningful impact in a community-focused setting. To be considered for this position, you should possess a tertiary qualification in Safety (or demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience).
What you will be doing (key accountabilities)
* Reporting to the Head of People, Culture and Safety, provide key support to operational teams, ensuring a safe working environment across all Busselton Water sites. Responsibilities include overseeing compliance, conducting inspections, delivering training and awareness initiatives, and contributing to building and maintaining a robust safety culture.
* Ensure compliance with relevant Work Health and Safety regulations, collaborating with stakeholders to review, update and adapt processes as operational or legislative requirements evolve.
* Conduct regular site inspections and provide expert advice on compliance matters specific to water industry operations.
* Review and assist with the development of safety procedures, reporting, SWMS, JHAs, and hazard management, tailored to water utility environments.
* Proactively manage incident reporting, investigations, and implementation of corrective and preventative measures, ensuring timely resolution and communication.
* Administer site safety equipment, signage, emergency drills, and first aid resources to support operational readiness.
* Drive continuous improvement in people and safety systems, sharing lessons learned across the organisation.
* Support and participate in internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance specific to water services.
* Provide coaching and support to leaders and elected Health and Safety Representatives to maximise participation.
* Facilitate the integration of safety software and documentation management for operations to streamline compliance and reporting.
* Deliver training and awareness programs to enable our operations workforce to achieve required competencies and maintain compliance.
* Support internal and external audits in line with Busselton Water's policies and regulatory requirements, ensuring recommendations and maintenance outcomes are facilitated and closed out where applicable.
* Support the ongoing improvement of the WHS Management System to ensure the quality and standardisation of information is maintained and shared.
* Actively contribute to committees, policy development, working groups, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout Busselton Water.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant Work Health and Safety regulations, adapting processes as operational or legislative requirements evolve.
What we are looking for
* Exceptional communication skills and the ability to foster strong working relationships with all stakeholders, both internal and external.
* Comprehensive understanding of WHS legislation, standards, and procedural documentation relevant to the water industry.
* Advanced computer literacy, with the ability to create, maintain, and enhance HSE documentation and systems.
* Minimum Certificate IV in WHS; additional Training and Assessment qualifications highly regarded.
* Current First Aid certificate.
* Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar or related role is preferred.
* National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain one).
* Valid Australian driver's licence.
