ABOUT THE ROLE:

LOCATION

This is a hybrid role, based out of the Pureprofile office in either Sydney or Melbourne, with flexibility around in-office days to support the right balance for you and the team.

CORE PURPOSE:

The Head of Engineering is responsible for leading and scaling Pureprofile's software engineering function to deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable products and platforms. This role owns engineering execution, technical delivery, and development standards across multiple markets, managing teams of engineers and software specialists both locally and internationally, as well as third-party vendors. Partnering closely with Product, Infrastructure, and Technology leadership, the role ensures consistent delivery against product roadmaps, strong engineering quality, and operational reliability, while building high-performing teams that support business growth and long-term platform sustainability. This role is ideal for a people-focused leader who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and who is passionate about building strong engineering culture, supporting teams through change, and leading with empathy as well as execution.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

* Lead and manage the company's software engineering function across multiple markets, including in-house engineers, software specialists, and third-party development partners.
* Own engineering delivery and execution, ensuring consistent, high-quality outcomes aligned to product roadmaps, timelines, and business priorities.
* Establish and enforce engineering standards, best practices, and ways of working to ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
* Drive technical excellence, platform stability, and performance while proactively managing technical debt.
* Partner closely with Product, Infrastructure, and Technology leads to align engineering delivery with strategic priorities and architectural direction.
* Partner closely with Infrastructure and DevOps teams to ensure CI/CD pipelines, environments, and deployment practices support efficient and reliable delivery
* Build, develop, and retain high-performing engineering teams, including talent development, performance management, and succession planning.
* Oversee vendor selection, engagement, and performance, ensuring third-party partners meet quality, security, delivery, and cost expectations.
* Ensure engineering practices support security-by-design, reliability, and compliance requirements.
* Lead the practical adoption of AI-enabled tools and capabilities within the engineering function to improve developer productivity, software quality, and delivery efficiency.
* Ensure AI and automation are applied responsibly within engineering workflows, including code generation, testing, monitoring, and support tooling, with appropriate controls for security, quality, and compliance.
* Improve engineering productivity through effective tooling, processes, and continuous improvement.
* Provide clear visibility of engineering progress, risks, and dependencies to senior leadership.

ABOUT YOU

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
* Postgraduate qualifications in technology, engineering, or business are desirable but not essential.
* Relevant certifications in cloud platforms, software architecture, agile delivery, or engineering leadership advantageous.

EXPERIENCE:

* 2+ years' experience in senior software engineering leadership roles, such as Head of Engineering, Head of Technology, Engineering Manager, or equivalent.
* Proven experience leading and scaling software engineering teams across multiple markets, including distributed and offshore teams.
* Demonstrated ownership of end-to-end software delivery across complex, product-led or platform-based environments.
* Experience managing third-party development vendors and partners, including delivery governance, quality assurance, and commercial oversight.
* Strong background in modern software development practices, cloud-native architectures, and CI/CD environments.
* Experience balancing delivery speed, quality, and technical debt in high-availability production systems.
* Proven ability to collaborate with Product, Infrastructure, and Technology leaders to deliver against strategic roadmaps.
* Experience building or supporting AI-enabled product features or platforms, alongside the adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools, in production software environments is desirable.

* Deep understanding of modern software engineering practices, architecture, and development tooling.
* Strong understanding of how AI-enabled product features, platforms, and AI-assisted engineering tools can be effectively designed, built, and operated within modern software delivery environments.
* Sound engineering judgment in evaluating when AI-based approaches are appropriate for product features or internal systems, balancing delivery speed, quality, scalability, risk, and compliance.
* Excellent delivery management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and execute complex engineering initiatives.
* Strong stakeholder and vendor management skills, able to influence across technical and non-technical audiences.
* Commercial awareness, including experience managing budgets, resourcing, and vendor performance.
* Problem-solving mindset, with the ability to make sound technical and delivery decisions under pressure.
* Clear, confident communication skills, with the ability to provide transparency on progress, risks, and outcomes.
