Rural Clinical School Indigenous Student Support Officer (Fixed‐term, 6 months)
Full‐time, fixed‐term position for 6 months. Base salary: $95,361 – $102,302 + 17% super (HEW Level6). This is an identified S25 position, open to Aboriginal and TorresStrait Islander candidates only, as a genuine occupational requirement.
Location: Rockhampton Hospital, University of Queensland.
Key Responsibilities
1. Build and sustain strong partnerships with schools, TAFE, VET providers, regional universities, health services and community organisations to strengthen Indigenous pathways into medicine.
2. Support Indigenous prospective and enrolled medical students through admission pathways, transition, academic progression and wellbeing, acting as a trusted first point of contact.
3. Design and deliver outreach, leadership, mentoring and engagement initiatives that foster aspiration, belonging and student success within the MD program.
4. Provide high‐quality administrative and coordination support to teaching, scholarships and community engagement activities across the regional medical pathway.
Qualifications & Experience
Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in student support, education, community engagement or a related field, with the capability to operate across secondary, tertiary and community environments.
High‐level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to confidently present, facilitate workshops and engage with diverse audiences.
Demonstrated experience supporting Aboriginal and TorresStrait Islander students and/or students from diverse backgrounds, applying culturally safe, respectful and responsive approaches.
Strong organisational capability, experience planning, designing and delivering engagement, mentoring or outreach programmes, and ability to work autonomously while contributing to a collaborative team.
Proven ability to build and sustain positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including students, families, schools, health services, university colleagues and community partners.
