CAWLS is a busy community legal practice committed to providing excellent outcomes for our clients through legal advice and representation, financial counselling and other support services. Many of our clients are women who have experienced or are experiencing Domestic and Family violence.
CAWLS is seeking a self-motivated candidate with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and a strong work ethic to assist our legal team in the Alice Springs Office. The right candidate will be passionate about improving access to justice for women. Excellent ongoing training and on the job, support will be provided to the successful applicant.
Responsibilities Include:
The Administration Officer will be proactive in their work, working in partnership with colleagues and clients form a strengths-based perspective including the following key duties:
* Support the CAWLS team with general administration duties required to efficiently run the reception area as directed, which may include a variety of tasks including answering the telephone, greeting clients attending the office, completing initial intake documentation, daily mail run, actioning incoming referrals in a timely manner, ordering office supplies & assisting Front of House staff to ensure the office is clean an tidy and is opened/closed securely each day).
* Facilitate clients to access CAWLS legal, Financial Counselling and other services & assist clients and lawyers etc during advice clinics, outreach visits and at other locations as directed. This includes assisting clients with intake procedures including conflict checks, completing intake forms, appointment bookings, notifying lawyers of appointments and contacting clients the day prior to remind them of appointments.
* Assist clients to access assistance from other services such as emergency housing, food vouchers etc.
* Assist the Client support officer to facilitate client transport as requested.
* Establish and maintain accurate client files in line with standards, Privacy Principles and CAWLS procedures.
* Collect & enter required data for internal data collection systems ensuring file notes and data entry is completed in a timely manner & provide data reports when requested.
* Report any Work Health Safety issues that may arise or come to attention in the work environment.
* Participate in projects and activities contributing to the promotion of CAWLS such as stalls at community events.
* Provide first aid in accordance with training and oversee compliance & ordering of first aid supplies in the office & vehicles.
* Comply with the requirements of any applicable legislation relating to the legal practice

Selection Criteria (Essential)
· Formal qualifications are not required for this position however previous experience working in an office environment is a requirement including:
* High level customer service & office administration skills
* Demonstrated ability in the use of computer software programs in particular MS Word & MS Excel and Outlook.
* Well-developed oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of cultural and social groups.
* Excellent attention to detail and written skills when communicating with others, both internally within the organisation and externally.
* Ability to accomplish objectives effectively within time frame given and carry out administrative duties in an efficient and timely manner.
* A strong commitment to cultural safety when assisting women from diverse cultural backgrounds including Aboriginal women.
* Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality and ability to be discreet.
* Adopt a client orientated approach including the ability to effectively manage and prioritise workloads and to show initiative and problem-solving skills in the workplace.
* Knowledge and understanding of the issues women face in seeking access to justice particularly indigenous women and those whose first language is not English.
* Well-developed interpersonal and relationship management skills with the capacity to work as a member of a team and ability to liaise with stakeholders in a confident and professional manner.
* Proven ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team; willingness to assist and support others as required and get on with team members including taking directions from legal practitioners.
* Personal commitment to reflection and self-care to build resilience and minimise the impact of vicarious trauma.
* Current NT Driver's License, first aid certificate, ochre card & Criminal History check (or the ability to obtain)
Desirable
· Previous experience in a Community Legal Service or in a similar role.
· Knowledge and understanding of the issues women face in seeking access to justice particularly aboriginal women and those whose first language is not English.
· Trauma informed training.
