Tasks Include:
Provides diagnostic assessment and management of disorders of communication and swallowing through direct intervention, education, consultancy, advocacy, or a combination of these approaches.
* Preparing written reports of assessment outcomes and referring clients to medical professionals as needed.
* Offering counselling and guidance to clients and their families as part of a holistic treatment plan.
* Supporting the design and implementation of social communication programs.
* Using standardised tests and clinical observation to assess the nature and severity of communication or swallowing disorders.
* Treating and managing speech, language, communication, and learning challenges—whether developmental, disability-related, or acquired through illness or injury.
* Advising on safe eating and swallowing techniques, including appropriate body positioning and food/fluid textures.
* Educating healthcare professionals, educators, and caregivers, while also providing support and resources to individuals and families affected by communication or swallowing difficulties.
Skills Required:
At least 2 years of Speech Therapy experience and the following:
* Clinical Expertise in Speech and Language Disorders
– Proficiency in assessing, diagnosing, and treating a variety of communication, speech, language, and swallowing disorders.
* Patience and Empathy
– Capable of working compassionately with individuals of all ages and backgrounds, often in challenging or emotional circumstances.
* Customised Treatment Planning
– Skilled in developing individualized therapy plans tailored to each client's specific needs and goals.
* Documentation and Record-Keeping Proficiency
– Accurate and timely maintenance of client records, treatment plans, and progress reports.
* Strong Communication Skills
– Ability to clearly explain therapy techniques and progress to patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
Salary:
$90,000 - $110,000 plus superannuation (pay grade dependant on years of experience)
