RCH provides a full range of paediatric and adolescent health services, including tertiary and quaternary care for the most critically ill and medically complex patients in Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW and beyond.
About the Role
This role is for a casual Newborn Hearing Screener with the Victorian Infant Hearing Screening Program (VIHSP). The successful candidate will be employed as required by RCH to conduct newborn hearing screening at Wodonga. Responsibilities include:
- Conduct hearing screens on newborns in accordance with VIHSP protocols and procedures.
- Communicate with parents in a sensitive and accurate manner.
- Maintain thorough and timely documentation across multiple IT systems.
- Uphold the high standards of VIHSP, maintaining accurate records and assisting in quality‑assurance activities.
- Work effectively with the VIHSP team and hospital staff to support newborn hearing care.
What You’ll Achieve
- Contribute to the early detection of newborn hearing loss, ensuring infants receive timely diagnosis and intervention.
- Provide family‑centred, compassionate, and clear communication with parents.
- Assist in the smooth operation of administrative duties, supporting efficient service delivery.
- Support the VIHSP team and hospital staff in delivering high‑quality hearing screening services.
Your Skills and Experience
- Excellent communication skills with families, stakeholders, and other team members.
- Proficiency in data entry and general administrative tasks.
- Experience or ability to work in a hospital environment.
- Comfort working with newborns.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and prioritise in a fast‑paced environment.
Other Requirements
- Flexibility to work at multiple hospital sites in the region as needed.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training and career development.
- Commitment to adhering to program procedures and ensuring safety and accuracy in hearing screening.
- Current National Criminal Record Check, or willingness to obtain one.
- Valid Working with Children Check.
- A current Victorian driver’s licence (travel between maternity hospitals is essential).
- Compliance with RCHs Staff Immunisation Procedure.
