Indigenous Managed Services (IMS) are committed to providing meaningful opportunities across the energy, resources, mining, civil and government sectors. We are partnering with a leading WA energy provider to recruit a Principal Planning Engineer for their Energy Planning Division.
This is a senior technical leadership position that plays a key role in shaping the future of Western Australia’s regional energy systems. The role will lead the development of planning standards, technical rules and modelling frameworks that underpin the state’s clean-energy transition — including integration of renewable generation, battery energy storage and microgrids across distributed networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, maintenance and governance of technical rules, planning standards and planning processes.
- Provide expert technical guidance on generation, transmission and distribution planning.
- Oversee system modelling, analysis and scenario planning using industry-standard tools (e.g. DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, ETAP).
- Investigate and evaluate emerging technologies, renewable integration and hybrid energy solutions.
- Mentor and coach a team of planning and power-system engineers to uplift capability across the business.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders on planning studies, project assessments and compliance frameworks.
- Contribute to strategic planning, risk management and continuous improvement of future-energy initiatives.
About You
You are an accomplished engineer with solid analytical capability, deep understanding of power-system behaviour and a passion for enabling the clean-energy transition.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Degree in Electrical or Power Engineering.
- Experience in power-system planning, modelling or design across generation, transmission and/or distribution networks.
- Demonstrated expertise in renewable and hybrid power systems (solar, wind, BESS, microgrids).
- Advanced proficiency in DIgSILENT PowerFactory or equivalent system-analysis tools.
- Strong technical writing, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Experience leading teams and managing technical standards or engineering governance frameworks.
