Senior Structural Engineer – Submarine Design
We have been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in Australia.
To deliver on this new work, we are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to live, work and learn about building nuclear-powered submarines in Barrow, United Kingdom (UK).
At the completion of your deployment, you will return to South Australia (SA) to carry out the build activities at the Osborne Shipyard.
Placements are available for September **** and will be 24 months in duration.
Responsibilities
Support the design and development of SSN-AUKUS structural systems alongside the UK Stage 1 Structural Engineering Team
Capture and document UK structural engineering practices, tools, and lessons learned for future application in Australia
Participate in structural design reviews, technical workshops, and integration planning
Liaise with UK engineers and stakeholders to understand system requirements, interfaces, and constraints
Assist in the development of structural design documentation, models, and specifications
Eligibility
Bachelor's degree in Structural, Mechanical, or Naval Architecture Engineering (or equivalent)
Experience in structural design, analysis, or integration in complex engineering environments
Exposure to finite element analysis (FEA) tools and structural modelling software
Working knowledge of configuration and change management processes
3+ years' experience (desirable)
Ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 defence clearance and meet ITAR requirements
