The Community Safety department oversees a broad range of functions including emergency management, community laws, animal management, parking services, general community safety programs, prosecutions and the school crossing service. We are a highly collaborative team working in an agile and fast-paced environment underpinned by our organisational values and a service driven approach.
The role:
A Community Laws Officer contributes to protecting the Whitehorse community and Council assets by administrating and enforcing a range of various Acts and Regulations including investigations relating to safety and amenity, animal management, local laws, nuisance issues, litter, building site safety, fire prevention and more. This role works directly with the community to resolve issues.
About you:
A Certificate IV in Statutory Compliance/Animal Management is desirable (or willing to obtain), or you bring substantial relevant experience in regulatory compliance, ideally within local government.
You have strong knowledge of relevant legislation and industry standards.
Experience or capability to work with and handle animals.
Skilled in conducting interviews, investigating breaches, and preparing thorough briefs of evidence.
A strategic thinker and effective problem solver, with sound analytical skills and the ability to develop practical solutions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing reports, correspondence, and documentation.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively with members of the community.
Holds a current Victorian driver's licence.
