Materials Engineer Career Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Materials Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Materials Engineering Studies group, you will play a crucial role in delivering advanced technical investigations, design reviews, audits, and advisory services across all aspects of water and wastewater infrastructure and standards.
About the Role
* You will act as a subject matter expert within the organisation, ensuring materials-related solutions meet performance, durability, and compliance requirements.
* Your work will support the delivery of safe, sustainable, and cost-effective infrastructure outcomes aligned with corporate and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Drive effective Safety in Design practices across multidisciplinary teams, eliminating or minimising health and safety risks throughout the asset lifecycle.
* Deliver specialist investigations, technical audits, and engineering design advice for complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
* Champion and apply corporate technical standards and guidelines to ensure asset performance, compliance, and cost-effective outcomes.
* Contribute to a positive team environment by implementing leadership direction, participating in decision-making, and supporting knowledge-sharing through forums, training, and cross-functional collaboration.
* Assess new technologies and industry best practices, recommending adoption where beneficial, and initiating improvements that enhance performance, safety, and value across the Materials & Cathodic Protection discipline.
* Engage and consult with internal and external stakeholders to ensure engineering outcomes align with customer and corporate expectations.
Requirements
* Tertiary qualification in Material/Mechanical/Civil & Structural Engineering.
* Able to assess and recommend appropriate materials for pipelines, structures, and water/wastewater assets.
* Ensure material compatibility with water and wastewater quality, environmental conditions, and asset longevity.
* Lead investigations into material or asset failures (e.g. pipe bursts, coating failures, concrete degradation).
* Identify root causes and recommend corrective/preventative actions.
* Contribute to asset management strategies from a materials perspective.
* Provide expertise on corrosion protection systems and strategies.
