This role is an important part of a collaborative and supportive team that provides critical actuarial leadership to ensure the sound development and application of actuarial models across a wide range of government programs. As an APS6, you will be responsible for developing and mentoring junior actuaries to explore new ideas and challenge different viewpoints.
You will apply your actuarial and statistical skills and contribute your own expertise to achieve outcomes that provide insights to government programs and inform policy advice that can anticipate improvements for the Australian population.
You will be a key member of a team that supports the design, development and application of actuarial analysis and advice to government across a diverse range of programs. The AGA develops and maintain a wide range of actuarial models, from traditional actuarial models to microsimulation models informed by machine learning and analysis encouraging the exploration of diverse views and harnessing the benefits of such views. An opportunity exists within the AGA to work with our senior actuaries and analysts, contributing to the development of innovative solutions requiring highly complex data analytics.
Desirable Qualifications / Experience
It is highly desirable for candidates to have an actuarial degree major with demonstrated and substantive progress through the actuarial exams, preferably to the level of Associate of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (AIAA) or Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA). When applying for the position, you will be required to upload your academic transcript of the actuarial degree you studied. It is also desirable for candidates to possess:
* Experience working with complex data sets, GLMs, machine learning, and microsimulation modelling.
* Relevant experience with modelling of tax debt, military compensation schemes, and the social security system.
* Strong SAS and/or R skills.
* Strong conceptual, analytical and data visualisation skills.
* Client service skills including project and stakeholder management.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
