Job Description
Your new opportunity at Nine.
We are looking for an experienced radio journalist to join our Nine Radio Perth newsroom team as the Weekend Breakfast Reader.
You will prepare, edit and present live news and sport bulletins on Perth's premier news and talk radio station and our national network of stations.
As a journalist, you will generate stories, research, edit and present information in a balanced, accurate and interesting way.
Day to day, you will report to the News Director and your daily responsibilities will include:
1. Editing and presenting informative, accurate and interesting news and sport bulletins
2. Presenting live, timed-out bulletins as well as recorded bulletins
3. Meeting hourly and half-hourly deadlines
4. Making editorial decisions on news and sports coverage
5. Understanding and complying with media law and industry codes of conduct and regulations
6. Researching, writing, editing and presenting radio news stories, both live and pre-recorded
7. Generating ideas for stories, and following leads from contacts, news agencies, politicians, the public, media conferences and other sources
8. Conducting interviews with a variety of newsmakers
9. Exercising editorial judgement on the best angle from which to approach a story
10. Taking direction from the Perth News Director as well as shift editors
Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will have the below:
11. Proven experience editing and presenting radio news bulletins
12. Experience in journalism and expertise in news gathering, writing and presenting for radio
13. Able to work Weekends
14. Able to meet hourly and half-hourly deadlines under pressure
15. Ability to deal effectively with simultaneous tasks
16. Demonstrated ability to work within a live broadcasting environment
17. Broad knowledge of local, national and international issues, newsmakers and organisations
18. Knowledge of domestic and international sport
19. High-level communication and interpersonal skills
20. Online research, word processing, audio editing and social media skills
21. Ability to work in a team and independently, and to take feedback and direction
22. Adherence to high ethical standards
23. Valid Driver’s Licence
