About Pathology Queensland Pathology Queensland (PQ) provides diagnostic pathology services to all Hospital and Health Services (HHS) across metro, regional and remote Queensland and plays a critical role in the government's response to public health threats, epidemics, and civil emergencies. PQ also provides expert analysis, scientific testing and advice to maintain and improve our public and environmental health, and to support the coronial system in Queensland. Purpose of the role * To support the strategic direction and setting of quality standards for Anatomical Pathology within your laboratory in line with Pathology Queensland strategic priorities. * Responsibility for the medical leadership and clinical governance to all consultant Pathologist and registrars within Anatomical Pathology. * To drive change management within your laboratory in collaboration with the Medical Director, Gold Coast University Hospital Laboratory and the Group Laboratory Manager. * Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with the Queensland Public Service values (QPS) along with the following accountabilities: * Provide timely, efficient, high quality and cost effective Anatomical Pathology diagnostic and consultation services, which meet the clinical needs of referrers statewide * Assist in developing and implementing frameworks and strategies to continue the development of the state-wide Anatomical Pathology service as a single functional entity based on universal best practice and reflected through uniform standards and practices. * Supervise registrars. * Actively participate in performance and development in your field of Anatomical Pathology. * Provide an autopsy service as required to the Hospital and Health Service and other institutions. * Actively participate in discipline specific meetings, laboratory/department meetings and or multidisciplinary team meetings as determined in consultation with clients. * Participate in clinical audits including the review and validation of test and quality assurance results. * Consult with users of the service to provide expert clinical guidance and interpretation of results. * Participate in Discipline specific activities as relevant to the Department/Unit and activities as relevant across the statewide service. * The advertised role will report to the Medical Director Gold Coast University Hospital Laboratory and the Statewide Director Anatomical Pathology (based at RBWH) either directly or through appropriate reporting lines. * Follow recommendations/directives from the Medical Director(s) or Quality Manager. Role specific criteria * Demonstrated contemporary knowledge and experience in supporting pathology services in Anatomical Pathology across a diverse laboratory network. * Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills necessary for all aspects of the position. * Demonstrated skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to conduct relevant training, teaching, research, investigation, analysis and management. * Knowledge of the ISO 15189 and NATA Medical Testing Requirements demonstrating continued accreditation in your clinical specialty for all laboratories across a diverse network Qualifications, registrations and other requirements * Mandatory requirements are a medical qualification and tertiary qualification in Anatomical Pathology (FRCPA, or equivalent) and be registerable with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Specialist Pathologist. * Qualifications in medical administration or demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in medical administration desirable. * Experience with directing teaching and applied research desirable. * The incumbents must be Fellows of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia or equivalent. Vaccine Preventable Diseases requirements * It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis B and TB.
