About the role
As a
Senior Health and Safety Advisor
, you play a pivotal role in leading HSEQ programs across all Supagas WA Branches and Agents. You'll ensure compliance with licensing and legislative requirements, support accreditation processes and mentor branch teams to drive continual improvement and standards.
Specifically, you will:
Develop, implement and maintain the HSEQ / IMS policies, procedures and safety management systems to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards and certification (e.g. ISO, internal audits, licence requirements).
Conduct regular site inspections, hazard-identification and risk assessments, and manage corrective actions following incidents, near misses or unsafe conditions.
Lead and facilitate incident investigations and root-cause analyses for accidents or safety failures; report findings and ensure lessons learned and corrective measures are implemented.
Design, deliver and oversee safety training, inductions and awareness programs (toolbox talks, LMS, external qualifications) to ensure all staff and contractors are current and competent.
Monitor, analyse and report on HSEQ performance, safety KPIs, incident statistics and trends — prepare reports and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Manage organisational change processes when introducing new plant, equipment, procedures or systems — ensuring risk assessments and safety compliance for any changes.
Provide expert advice and support to managers, supervisors, and staff on HSEQ matters — acting as a safety-culture champion and driver of a proactive, safety-first environment.
Coordinate and support audit programs (internal & external), certification activities, compliance submissions, safety committee meetings, and maintenance of accurate HSEQ documentation and records across branches/sites.
You possess:
Tertiary qualification (degree or diploma) in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent safety-related qualification.
Minimum 5 years' proven experience in a HSEQ / WHS advisory role — ideally within a high-risk, industrial, construction or heavy-industry environment.
Strong working knowledge of relevant WHS legislation, industry standards and ISO-certified management systems (e.g. ISO *****, ISO ****), with prior experience conducting internal audits, compliance checks, and system implementation.
Proficient in using database/document-management software for reporting, record-keeping and delivering computer-based training.
Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and stakeholder-engagement skills — able to liaise effectively across all levels (field staff, management, external regulators/contractors).
Robust analytical, problem-solving and decision-making ability, with a results-oriented approach and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and foster a positive safety culture — promoting behavioural-based safety, continuous improvement, and compliance across multiple sites or teams.
Self-motivated, organised and able to manage competing priorities — capable of working independently when required, ensuring safety systems, audits, reporting and corrective actions are maintained and up-to-date.
