The successful candidate will play an integral role in the following:
Act as a first point of contact and respond to telephone enquiries from clients, staff and external stakeholders. This includes providing referral advice and helping clients prepare applications for Legal Aid.Actively participate in the development, review, implementation and maintenance of internal systems, processes and work practices, identify areas for improvement and recommend, negotiate and implement enhancements to existing practices.Coordinate and organise administrative aspects of the Mount Isa office regarding remote outreach services. This includes liaising and consulting with community agencies, peak bodies and government departments in relation to Circuit Court activities and schedules.Liaise with and develop effective partnerships with key service providers and community agencies to achieve a high level of interaction, support and communication to ensure the provision of appropriate services to rural and indigenous people of the Mount Isa District.Provide support to lawyers with administrative activities associated with case files including research; report writing; word processing; opening, closing and archiving files; data entry and searches.Provide support to lawyers with prioritising daily tasks and maintain appointments and calendars including scheduling appointments with clients, interpreters, experts and other relevant stakeholders. Also manage bookings for rooms, videoconferences and travel.Help lawyers to prepare for matters including preparing correspondence, keeping detailed file notes, gathering personal information from clients, drafting affidavits and preparing summons/subpoenas.
About You
You have administrative and secretarial experience, can work independently, use information technology systems (eg. Microsoft Office) and learn organisation specific programs.You have knowledge of legal practices and processes across various jurisdictions (criminal law, family law, civil law, domestic violence and child protection matters) and understand social issues that relate to the Mount Isa and surrounding communities in North West Queensland.You can communicate effectively with stakeholders including clients with complex needs, and establish and maintain effective links and networks with relevant stakeholders; especially government departments, community agencies and rural and indigenous people.
