The Role ABC News is seeking an experienced Reporter to join the ABC North Coast team, producing compelling, audience‑focused content across digital, audio and broadcast platforms. As a key member of our regional newsroom, you’ll cover breaking news, cultivate original local stories, and contribute to the ABC’s mission of informing and connecting communities across Australia. Under limited direction from the editor, the job will include: Create distinctive, high‑impact content for multiple platforms, engaging both local and national audiences. Research, analyse and investigate issues of public interest, breaking original story ideas and leaning in more complex and difficult stories. Producing and presenting breaking news, Q&As, interviews and packages — including agenda‑setting and breaking stories. Proactively participate in the content planning and commissioning process, contributing ideas that drive reach and engagement. Support the delivery of the Local Emergency Coverage plan when required. Identify local stories for broader distribution across ABC Regional & Local and the wider ABC network. Engage proactively with local communities to source stories that reflect Australia’s geographic, cultural and socio‑economic diversity. You'll Also Have Advanced editorial and research skills to source and break original local stories that engage and enthral local audiences. Experience and skills mentoring and developing content making skills within a small team. An understanding of local audiences and the stories that are important to them. Advanced experience creating breaking and original multi‑platform content, including live presentation. Strong editorial judgement, research skills and a track record of breaking local stories.
