Role Description
The Business Development Manager will lead initiatives to generate and engage with business partners to build new business for the company. This candidate will be focused and have strong communication skills. They should be able to think critically when making plans and have a demonstrated ability to execute a particular strategy.
Responsibilities
* Make 30–50 outbound cold calls per day to prospective clients using a call-first, qualify-hard approach
* Source 50–100 fresh leads weekly using lead generation software, targeting key decision-maker titles including Transport Managers, Logistics Managers, Operations Managers, Warehouse Managers, Supply Chain Managers, Procurement Managers, Dispatch Managers, Fleet Managers, and GMs/Directors
* Work the existing HubSpot database to re-engage dormant prospects and identify new opportunities
* Qualify prospects by phone before booking any meetings — identify pain points, assess readiness, and ask about existing contracts to avoid wasting time on unqualified leads
* Run 4-touch outreach sequences across phone, email, and LinkedIn (Day 1: call + email, Day 3: value email, Day 5: call + LinkedIn, Day 8: breakup email)
* Manage follow-up sequences for different outcomes: Interested, Under Contract, No Answer, and Re-engagement
Meetings & Proposals
* Attend 2–4 qualified face-to-face meetings per week with decision-makers who have been properly vetted by phone
* Prepare and send tailored proposals to qualified prospects based on their specific needs and pain points
* Manage the full sales cycle from first contact through to deal close
Client Onboarding
* Manage the onboarding process for new clients once a deal is won, ensuring a smooth handover and strong first impression
CRM & Reporting
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in HubSpot CRM — log all calls, meetings, proposals, and outcomes daily
* Create and manage segmented lead lists
* Enter daily activity numbers into a Google Sheet tracking outbound calls, proposals sent, meetings conducted, and new clients onboarded
* Participate in weekly pipeline reviews covering call volume, meeting conversion rates, proposal-to-close ratio, and revenue generated
Required Qualifications and Experience
* Proven B2B sales or business development experience (freight, logistics, or transport industry preferred but not essential)
* Expert cold calling skills with a track record of high-volume outbound activity
* Experience using a CRM system (HubSpot preferred) to manage pipeline and track activity
* Experience in the freight, logistics, or transport industry
* Understanding of taxi truck and FTL service models
* Confident and professional in face-to-face client meetings
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills
* Self-motivated, resilient, and comfortable with rejection
* Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule on the road
* Proven knowledge and execution of successful development strategies
* Familiarity with lead generation and prospecting tools
* Organisational skills with attention to detail in CRM data entry and reporting
