Job Status: Ongoing

Salary: Total Remuneration Package - $322,248 to $359,667 (includes base salary and superannuation, commensurate with experience).

About the NSW Electoral Commission:

The NSW Electoral Commission is an independent statutory authority that supports the integrity of democratic processes in New South Wales. The Commission delivers state, local and other elections, regulates electoral funding, enforces compliance with electoral and lobbyist laws and provides education and guidance to political participants and the broader community.

Accountable to the NSW Parliament through the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters, the Commission is required by legislation to operate independently and impartially and adheres to the public sector values of integrity, trust, service and accountability.

About the Role:

The Assistant Commissioner, Safeguards and Integrity is a senior executive role with responsibility for key functions of the Electoral Commission that protect and support trust in the NSW electoral system.

Reporting directly to the Electoral Commissioner and working closely with the three other members of the Commission's executive leadership team, the role is central to maintaining public trust in the electoral process through shaping and delivering strategies that safeguard its integrity and security. The Assistant Commissioner is also a key adviser to the three-member NSW Electoral Commission and the Electoral Districts Redistribution Panel.

The Assistant Commissioner will lead the Commission's integrity strategy, ensure sound administration of public funding claims, manage a program of compliance and enforcement work, enable access to timely legal services across the organisation, oversight delivery of protective and strategic cyber security plans and services and develop good regulatory practice designs and strategies. The role leads a multidisciplinary group of teams with different skills and expertise but complementary integrity contributions to the Commission's election programs and its ongoing regulatory and administrative responsibilities. Alongside existing teams with expertise in electoral funding, lobbyist registrations, investigations and enforcement actions, this is an opportunity to build new teams and strategies following additional funding for the Commission to grow its integrity and strategic security capabilities.

The role is an ongoing full-time position. For further information regarding the role please download the Role Description.

Key knowledge, experience and essential requirements:

The successful candidate for this role will be a senior executive with demonstrated experience leading regulatory, compliance or legal functions in complex public sector settings. You bring deep expertise in interpreting legislation, managing regulatory activities and delivering outcomes within high-integrity, politically sensitive environments. You are experienced in developing strategic frameworks and leading multidisciplinary teams in areas such as law enforcement, public administration or electoral administration. A strong interest in the current and future importance of technology in the electoral context is anticipated.

You are a credible and principled leader who can engage confidently with Ministers, Commissioners, Parliamentary Committees and senior officials. You lead with clarity and purpose, foster a culture of integrity and accountability, and uphold the Commission's values of independence and neutrality.

Additional requirements include:

* A national security clearance to at least NV-01 level from the date of appointment or hold one within 6 months of that date.
* Satisfactory Criminal Record check result.
* No affiliations with political parties, candidates, elected members, third-party campaigners, donors or registered lobbyists that could undermine the political impartiality of the Commission or that are otherwise inconsistent with its Political Neutrality Policy.
