The Role
We're looking for a proactive, product‐focused Java Backend Engineer who enjoys ownership, variety, and delivering meaningful features. You'll work closely with cross‐functional teams to design, build, and optimise backend systems that deliver value to both restaurants and diners.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and build scalable backend solutions using Java
* Develop and maintain serverless APIs
* Build and consume REST and GraphQL APIs
* Improve system performance, reliability, and scalability
* Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues
* Collaborate with product, frontend, and engineering teams
* Implement new features end‐to‐end
What You'll Bring
* Strong proficiency in Java backend development
* Experience building serverless APIs
* Solid understanding of software development principles
* Experience with REST and GraphQL APIs
* Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (MySQL, Postgres, etc.)
* Performance tuning and debugging experience
* Comfortable working with Git
* Experience writing automated tests and testable code
* Familiarity with modern architectures and design patterns
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Proactive, hands‐on mindset
Nice to Have
* Experience with AWS (S3, AppSync, API Gateway, Lambda, etc.)
* Experience building or working with CI/CD pipelines
* Interest in food, restaurants, and dining
Qualifications
* Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
* 3–5 years' post‐degree commercial experience as a Java Developer
* Full working rights in Australia
