About the role: The Senior Ranger position objective is to assist the Coordinator Ranger Services and Rural Land Management with the regulation, protection and improvement of the amenity, safety and well-being of the Central Highlands Regional Council community. This will be through the implementation and monitoring of plans, policies, local laws, legislation and compliance standards relevant to the responsibilities of the Ranger Services Unit. Day to day planning, and pro-actively supervising and monitoring the Rangers located across the Central Highlands region. Support to the Coordinator will be required for the workload distribution of the Rural Rangers as it relates to local laws and compliance matters. Service delivery. Assist the Coordinator Ranger Services and Rural Land Management with the successful delivery of the full range of ranger services responsibilities in accordance with established legislation and procedures with a strong customer service focus. 2. Organisational skills and People Management. In accordance with relevant delegations, supervise, organise, motivate, development and support work teams and individual employees within the unit to deliver service excellence and to achieve section and organisational goals. 3. Technical skills and expertise. Understand, analyse, interpret, administer and comply with relevant Acts, legislation and Council policies applicable to the functions within a local government ranger services unit (animal control, local laws with an understanding of plant & animal, pest and stock route management). 4. Information delivery. Producing high standard reports, correspondence and advice to internal and external clients relevant to disciplines within the unit. 5. Stakeholder Engagement. Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, to manage expectations and establish opportunities for the ongoing development of Council employees. The Client: Central Highlands Regional Council is the local government authority responsible for delivering essential services and infrastructure across the Central Highlands region of Queensland. It manages roads, water and waste services, community facilities, and regional planning, while supporting economic development, agriculture, mining, tourism, and environmental management to enhance community wellbeing and sustainable growth. To be successful you will have the following: Mandatory: Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Ranger or Local Laws Officer (equivalent). Demonstrated experience in the handling of companion animals, operation and maintenance of small plant and equipment. Proven experience in understanding legislation, case management for all aspects of investigations, including legislative breaches and Council representation to external agencies and court. Competent in Microsoft Office applications with the ability to learn computer programs of relevance to the Ranger Services team. Desirable: Knowledge of Council operations and functions, including Local Laws, Subordinate Local Laws and legislation relevant to the Ranger Services unit.
