THE ROLE
We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join the Social Investment Infrastructure team. The successful candidate will:
* Collaborate effectively with our Social Investment Technical Lead and analysts to enhance modelling efficiency and scale functions.
* Develop innovative models and simulations using the Julia programming language.
* Solve complex problems to support data-driven decision-making at a large scale.
* Contribute to government policy analysis and decision-making across Victorian state government portfolios.
* Assist in building and improving robust microsimulation models for policy initiatives.
* Develop, maintain, and support key tools that influence government policies and public services.
* Work in an environment that values creativity and innovation, fostering skill development in a supportive setting.
Social Investment Analytics (SIA), part of the Performance, Analytics, and Evaluation Branch in DFFH, manages the Victorian Social Investment Model (VicSIM). The team works with large datasets to create predictive tools supporting policy development, initiative design, and program evaluation.
Accountabilities
* Develop and enhance microsimulation models using Julia to simulate service use, outcomes, and costs, and assess program impacts.
* Maintain and support Power BI and Excel-based tools for scenario simulation and model validation, providing cross-departmental stakeholder support.
* Collaborate with subject-matter experts to incorporate cross-domain effects and program logic into the models.
