Company overview
The Three Thousands Studios is a premier creative studio blurring the lines between gaming, lifestyle, and brands. Our team has worked on some of the world’s biggest franchises—and now, we’re channelling that experience into bold, original games that push boundaries. Based in Melbourne, we are committed to utilising local game dev talent (that’s why we’re named after the postcode – local matters!). Join us to be part of a team that’s driving the future of games and local game development.
The Role
We’re seeking a DevOps Engineer with strong systems knowledge and a proactive mindset to take ownership of infrastructure and deployment systems across development and production environments. You’ll work closely with engineers, designers, and production to support reliable builds, scalable multiplayer server deployments, and robust live service tooling.
This is a hands-on role with real responsibility, ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys building smart, scalable systems that directly support a game and its players.
Responsibilities
* System Administration: Provision, configure, and maintain physical and virtual machines across on-site and cloud environments.
* CI/CD Automation: Design, build, and maintain build, test, and deployment pipelines for Unreal Engine clients, dedicated servers, backend services, and development tools.
* Server Infrastructure Orchestration: Deploy and orchestrate multiplayer game servers both on-site and across cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
* Tools Development: Implement and maintain internal tools for monitoring, metrics collection, alerting, and log aggregation across multiple services.
* Security: Ensure systems follow best practices for security, access control, and infrastructure hardening.
* Collaborate across engineering and production to streamline workflows, reduce downtime, and support smooth operations through all stages of development and live service.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and provisioning of scalable virtualized environments.
* Proficiency with Linux system administration, including shell scripting, service configuration, and performance tuning.
* Solid understanding of infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes, Agones, or Amazon GameLift.
* Hands-on experience managing CI/CD systems such as GitLab, Azure DevOps, or similar — including automation of Unreal Engine build pipelines.
* Experience deploying and managing databases and observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog, etc.) to support health monitoring and diagnostics.
* Familiarity with security practices for securing game servers, VMs, cloud services, and developer tools.
* Comfort with scripting and programming languages commonly used in DevOps (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell), and ideally some .NET experience for backend integration and tools development.
* Experience supporting multiplayer games, live operations, or real-time services is highly desirable.
Bonus Points
* Experience with Unreal Engine build pipelines, including UAT, UBT, and BuildGraph scripting.
* Familiarity with high-throughput session-based multiplayer infrastructure.
* Prior experience with hybrid infrastructure setups (on-prem and cloud-integrated environments).
* Interest in game development tools and workflows across disciplines.
Even if you don’t meet every single requirement listed, we still encourage you to apply — your unique experience and perspective might be exactly what we need!
What we can offer you
* Flexibility: Option to work from home or from the office (no mandatory days in office!)
* Creative environment: We’re just starting up, so innovation and experimentation is highly valued and encouraged!
