Offer description

Overview
Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) People and Culture is seeking an experienced professional for the role of Director Psychosocial Safety, Diversity and Inclusion. A up-to-date Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) professional must safeguard both physical and psychological wellbeing, recognising that, alongside traditional physical and psychosocial hazards, exclusion, cultural disconnection, and inequity also pose significant risks.
What will you do?
Leading a small, dedicated team, you will provide strategic leadership and expert support in designing, implementing, and sustaining integrated psychosocial safety strategies. You will champion initiatives that prioritise psychosocial and psychological wellbeing, recognising that exclusion, cultural disconnection, and inequity require the same diligence and risk management processes.
Responsibilities
The position will require you to identify, assess, and address a wide range of risks emerging from work design, organisational culture, and interpersonal factors.
You will oversee the creation, delivery, and continuous improvement of programs and systems that manage psychosocial hazards.
Drawing on evidence-based practices and strategic partnerships, you will ensure the translation of policy into meaningful, measurable outcomes, including delivery of the various strategic people focused projects (e.g. Reconciliation Action Plan, psychosocial safety plans).
You will help embed a culture of safety, respect, belonging, and reconciliation that reflects CIT's commitment to diversity and the ACTPS values.
What do you need?
By applying evidence-based approaches and strategic collaboration with colleagues across the ACT Public Service, you will translate policy into practice, ensuring our workplaces reflect CIT's values of inclusion, equity, and reconciliation. Your leadership will close the gap on psychosocial risks, strengthen social cohesion, and build a resilient, engaged workforce that mirrors the rich diversity of our community.
Note on Diversity and Inclusion
If you believe that a safe work environment extends beyond traditional strategies and procedural safeguards to encompass cultural safety and belonging, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape CIT's future.
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.
Notes
This is a temporary position available from 1 December 2025 until 1 December 2026 with the possibility of permanency.
How to Apply
Please submit a two-page (maximum 1000 words) cover letter outlining your suitability for the position against the Selection Criteria, and why you believe you are the best person for the role. Please provide a current curriculum vitae with the names of two referees.
Applications should be submitted via the Apply Now button below.
