Position Overview
A highly skilled Estimator is required to join a well‑established civil and construction contractor in Townsville. This permanent, full‑time role is suited to an experienced professional who can produce accurate costing, tender submissions, and project estimates across a variety of civil construction works.
The Estimator will play a key role in supporting business growth, ensuring tender competitiveness, and providing commercial insight throughout the bid process. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong analytical skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to work collaboratively within a high‑performing construction team.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Cost Management
* Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, BOQs, and tender submissions for civil construction projects.
* Analyse labour, materials, subcontractor pricing, plant requirements, and productivity factors.
* Review engineering plans, specifications, and project documents to determine scope and cost implications.
* Maintain up‑to‑date cost databases and pricing structures.
Tendering & Bid Preparation
* Coordinate and prepare tender documentation including pricing schedules, methodology statements, and supporting documents.
* Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to source accurate and competitive pricing.
* Assist in developing tender strategies and identifying cost‑saving opportunities.
Project & Stakeholder Support
* Work closely with project managers, engineers, and operational teams to provide commercial insights.
* Participate in tender briefings, site visits, and scope review sessions.
* Provide post‑tender clarification, negotiation support, and value engineering inputs.
Quality, Accuracy & Compliance
* Ensure all estimates comply with industry standards, contractual requirements, and relevant legislation.
* Conduct risk assessments to identify potential project challenges and cost impacts.
* Maintain clear and concise documentation for audit and review purposes.
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven experience as an Estimator within civil construction, earthworks, infrastructure, or related fields.
* Strong understanding of construction methodologies, productivity rates, and industry pricing.
* Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
* Excellent numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
Desirable Attributes
* Experience working with medium to large civil contractors.
* Familiarity with local North Queensland suppliers, subcontractors, and market conditions.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tender deadlines.
