As a Picture Framer at Arts Edge, you will create high-quality, custom frames that preserve and showcase our clients artwork, photographs, and keepsakes. The role combines craftsmanship, creativity, and attention to detail, using both traditional techniques and modern equipment.
**Key Duties and Responsibilities**
- Studying drawings, work orders, and sample parts to determine framing specifications
- Determining tooling, material, and machine requirements and planning the sequence of operations
- Setting up woodworking machines and wood stock for correct cutting, planning, turning, shaping, and sanding
- Operating machines to cut, plane, turn, shape, and sand frame components to precise measurements
- Removing old finishes using steel wool, glasspaper, solvents, and paint strippers; scraping softened finishes as required
- Fitting and fastening frame pieces accurately and securely
- Mounting and assembling artwork, backing materials, and glazing for presentation and preservation
- Ensuring high standards of quality and attention to detail in all framing work
**Skills and Experience Required**
- Skilled in operating woodworking tools and machinery
- Strong attention to detail and an eye for design
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and work orders
- Good manual dexterity and craftsmanship skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Previous experience in a hands-on, practical role (e.g. woodworking, construction, cabinet making, or similar)
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn
- Good attention to detail and pride in producing quality work
- Reliability, strong work ethic, and a positive attitude towards training
