The Child Development Unit at The Children's Hospital at Westmead is currently recruiting a part-time Senior Social Worker to join this highly skilled, specialist assessment service. This is a maternity relief position.

The Child Development Unit (CDU) is a multidisciplinary team providing diagnostic and assessment services for children aged 0 – 16 years presenting with complex developmental disorders, including intellectual disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder and associated co‐morbidities.

Responsibilities

* Provide counselling and telephone triage.
* Manage intake processes.
* Deliver independent case management and professional assessments.
* Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Support families in transitioning to appropriate community‐based supports and intervention services.

Qualifications

* Eligibility for AASW membership with significant post‐graduate experience in social work practice with families and children and/or in health context.
* Substantial post‐graduate experience in social work practice with children and their families.
* Well‐developed knowledge of the psycho‐social challenges facing families with a child with developmental disabilities and sound knowledge of relevant community resources and support services available to the children and families.
* Significant post‐graduate experience in a variety of social work interventions/modalities including psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, case management, counselling, group work.
* Excellent demonstrated interpersonal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
* Demonstrated skills and experience in clinical supervision, professional education activities, service planning, and quality improvement activities.
* Capacity to share after hours and weekend on‐call duties.
* Competent computer skills and ability to adapt to new IT systems.
