Avant’s Medico-legal Advisory Service (MLAS) provides expert advice to help minimise the chance of a complaint or claim occurring. Due to the consistent growth Avant Mutual has experienced in recent years, we have expanded our MLAS team across Australia to ensure we can continue to provide an excellent service to our members. We are seeking an experienced health law Associate to join Avant Law as part of our national Medical Legal Advisory Service team. This role can be based in our Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide offices. This is a part‑time role (3‑days per week) working standard hours (if in Perth) or later start/finish times in the other states. Avant offers a hybrid working arrangement.
The key responsibilities include:
- This role will see you deliver high quality, timely legal advice and support to Avant’s members.
- Providing first-class telephone and written medico-legal advice to members.
- Providing support to the Avant Law and claims teams and other staff on medico-legal and health law matters.
- Giving presentations to members and staff and writing website content, articles and other member communications on relevant topics.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Relevant tertiary legal qualifications.
- Eligible to hold a practising certificate as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court and the High Court of Australia.
- Demonstrated post admission experience in health law is preferred.
- The ability to express ideas effectively with proven excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of prioritisation, time management and self-management skills.
- Good computer literacy and competency to work in an electronic document management environment.
