Advocacy Officer – Aboriginal - NSW Trustee and Guardian

* Ongoing full-time vacancy. 35 hours per week.
* Location: Sydney with Flexible and hybrid working options available.
* Clerk Grade: Level 7/8. Base salary ranges from $113,574 to $125,720 per annum plus 12% superannuation and annual leave loading.

About the team

The Customer Experience division provides a wide range of specialist support across NSWTG divisions including customer advocacy support, customer experience design, business development, marketing, brand, communications, and media services.

About the role

* The role supports the Manager, Aboriginal Advocacy in strengthening culturally safe practices across the organisation by building staff cultural capability, guiding engagement with Aboriginal people, and embedding a cultural perspective in programs, services, and decision-making. The role works collaboratively across NSW Trustee and Guardian's service areas—financial management, guardianship, will-making, and estate and trust administration—to integrate specialist customer understanding and drive service delivery improvements aligned with organisational priorities and whole-of-government objectives.

Key accountabilities include but not limited to:

* Supporting the NSW Trustee and Guardian Aboriginal Employee Network by providing guidance and support to staff to deliver high-quality services.
* Developing, delivering, and promoting training, tools, and resources that build staff awareness, capability, and confidence in working with Aboriginal people.
* Building and maintaining strong, respectful relationships with Aboriginal communities, Elders, service providers, and partner organisations to inform service design and improve outcomes.
* Contributing to the development, implementation, and monitoring of programs, projects, and policies to ensure they are inclusive, customer-centred, and culturally responsive.

About you

To be successful in this role you need to have:

* Demonstrated cultural capability, which includes lived experience, community connection, knowledge and understanding of contemporary social issues affecting Aboriginal people, who may have experienced trauma, disadvantage and/or disability.
* Demonstrated ability to build staff confidence and capability when working with Aboriginal people, including providing cultural advice, guidance, and training.
* Excellent knowledge of and relationships with Aboriginal organisations, councils, corporations, and support systems in NSW.

Essential requirements

* As an Identified role, this role is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons, Australia's First Nations people.

Where a position is identified, an applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and authorised by Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

There are two alternatives to confirming your Aboriginality, one of which must be uploaded to be considered for the role as follows. Either will be accepted:

* Confirmation of Aboriginality form OR
* Written confirmation from 2-3 Aboriginal organisations within the community in which you live/work, which addresses the three criteria listed below:
* is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
* identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
* is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
* Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience within the services sector, professional and or community-focused areas working to improve Aboriginal outcomes.
* Ability to travel on occasions across NSW Trustee and Guardian locations
