Library Service Assistant Role
The Library Service Assistant will play a key role in delivering high-quality services to our diverse community.
* Assist clients with their queries and help them make the most of our resources and facilities, including:
o Providing information and assistance using print and electronic resources.
o Processing requests and helping clients select and use library resources and facilities.
o Introducing and explaining our services, rules, and regulations to new and existing clients, and operating the complaints procedure.
* Support the delivery of promotional activities, including school visits, story time, user education events, and special initiatives.
* Contribute to the day-to-day routine procedures and delivery of client-focused library services in areas such as learning, information, leisure, and culture, including:
o Shelving, tidying, maintaining books and other resources, circulation procedures, and operating relevant information communication technology.
o Collating statistics and maintaining records as required.
* Play an active role within the team to ensure all services are provided to consistently high standards and comply with current policy and procedures.
* Respond promptly to comments and complaints from the public within the guidelines of our complaint procedure.
Essential Requirements
* A minimum of five GCSE/GCE O levels at grades A-C / 9-4 or equivalent, including English and Maths or equivalent/higher qualification.
* At least one year's experience of providing face-to-face services to a diverse range of people, including children and older adults, in a customer-focused environment.
* Experience of using current Information Communication Technology (ICT) for accessing, selecting, and using information.
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
* Good oral and written communication skills.
* Flexibility to work a mix of mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends, both at base and in other service points as required.
* No criminal record that would prevent working with children and/or adults at risk.
