Data Engineer (Power BI & Fabric) – Canberra
Are you a senior Power BI professional who thrives on building enterprise-grade reporting and data solutions? We are seeking an experienced Lead Power BI & Data Engineer to deliver high-quality dashboards, semantic models, and modern data pipelines in a fast-paced government environment. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong Microsoft Fabric, Power BI administration, and data engineering capability who can translate complex business needs into secure, scalable analytics solutions.
Location Canberra, ACT
Contract Duration: 12 months initial term with 2 x 12 month extension options
Security Clearance Requirement: Due to the nature of this environment, candidates must hold a current Negative Vetting Level 1 clearance.
Essential Tasks:
* Design, develop and deploy interactive dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI.
* Build and manage enterprise semantic models, Lakehouse and Warehouse solutions within Microsoft Fabric.
* Develop and optimise data pipelines, data models and transformations using DAX, Power Query (M), SQL and Fabric Data Factory.
* Manage Power BI administration, security, governance and performance across workspaces, datasets and related BI artifacts.
Key Criteria:
* 5+ years’ experience in a similar Power BI Developer / Data Engineer role.
* Strong technical capability across DAX, Power Query (M), SQL and data modelling.
* Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Fabric, Delta Lake architecture, Dataflows Gen2 and Fabric pipelines.
* Knowledge of Azure services, RLS, tenancy administration, licensing and BI security best practices.
