A receptionist isresponsible for undertaking a wide range of reception duties and providingsupport to the multidisciplinary team. Duties may include, but are not limitedto, greeting and directing patients, effective use of the appointment system,booking appointments, processing of personal information and assisting patientsas required.
Main duties of the job
To act as a centralpoint of contact for patients, the distribution of information, messages andenquiries for the clinical team, liaising with the multidisciplinary teammember and external agencies such as secondary care and community serviceproviders.

Job responsibilities
The coreresponsibilities of the receptionist are as follows. On occasion, there may bea requirement to carry out tasks not listed below, that are within thereasonable scope of the role.
- Maintainand monitor practice appointment system
- Processpersonal, telephone and e-requests for appointments
- Answerincoming phone calls, dealing with the callers request appropriately
- Signpostpatients to the correct service
- Initiatingcontact with and responding to, requests from patients, team members andexternal agencies
- Data entryof recent and temporary registrations and relevant patient information asrequested
- Input dataas necessary onto patients healthcare records
- Directrequests for information to relevant team members i.e., SAR, DVLA forms, insurance/solicitorsletters
- Manage allqueries as necessary in an efficient manner
- Carry outsystem searches as requested
- Supportall clinical staff with general tasks as required
- Photocopydocumentation as required
- Maintain aclean, tidy and effective working area
- Monitorand maintain the reception area and notice boards
In addition to thecore responsibilities, the Receptionist may be requested to;
1.Actionincoming emails and correspondence as necessary
2.Completeopening and closing procedures in accordance with the rota
3.Partake inaudit as directed by the audit lead
4.Supportadmin team, providing cover during absences
Scan patient related documents and attach scanneddocuments to patients healthcare record

Qualifications
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
Experience
- Experience in a GP practice
- Experience with SystemOne
- Clear, polite telephone manner
- Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
