Your role: A Gap Year in the Navy gives you an exciting taste of life in the ADF with just one year's commitment. You'll get paid for meaningful work, full Navy training, and enjoy memorable experiences – unlike anything you'd encounter in a regular gap year. On an Electronics Engineer Submariner Gap Year, you'll discover what it's like to work onboard one of Australia's most important strategic assets – a Collins Class submarine. You'll work alongside the Navy's expert Electronics Engineers as they go about their duties, managing teams of technicians, coordinating and scheduling tasks, and providing advice to Command, as well as getting the opportunity to contribute to operations onboard the submarine. Your 12-month experience is divided into stages. First, you'll get paid to learn the military and job-specific skills you need for your role. Then you'll post to a unit to apply your newly learned skills and you may have opportunities to travel around Australia to take part in domestic exercises and operations. Plus, you'll be supported by professional and enthusiastic Navy personnel throughout your experience. After finishing your Gap Year program, you can choose to continue a career in the Navy or you can use your new skills and experiences in future careers outside the ADF.
