to recruit an experienced
Health and Safety Manager
to lead, maintain and continually improve the organisation's health and safety management systems, while positively influencing safety behaviours across the business.
Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) is a commercial Statutory Authority constituted under the Water Act 2000 whose purpose is to supply bulk water to major consumers in the Gladstone Region. GAWB manages a variety of assets ranging from major water storage through to pump stations, pipelines, storage tanks and water treatment plants. It takes measures to protect the quantity and quality of present and future water supplies and provides, operates and maintains recreational facilities and fish fingerling production facilities and stocking programs. The organisation is committed to the local and hands-on relationships with their customers and community to drive continued innovation. About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager – People and Culture, the Health and Safety Manager plays a critical leadership role in advancing GAWB's ISO-certified safety management system. This position balances both operational and strategic responsibilities, working closely with leaders, employees, contractors, the Executive Leadership Team and the Board to ensure safety is embedded in the way GAWB works every day.
While compliance is essential, success in this role will be driven by your ability to influence, coach and lead cultural change, ensuring health, safety and wellbeing outcomes are achieved across a diverse and geographically spread asset base.
Key Accountabilities
* Lead the design, development, implementation and continuous improvement of GAWB's safety management system, to advance organisational safety maturity
* Maintain compliance with work health and safety legislation and ISO 45001 requirements
* Provide specialist health and safety advice to leaders, the Executive Leadership Team and the Board
* Develop safety metrics and report on performance and trends
* Lead and support incident and near-miss investigations, ensuring corrective actions are identified and implemented
* Coordinate WHS committees, representatives and first aid activities
* Oversee injury management, return-to-work processes and workers' compensation case management
* Lead health management initiatives, including drug and alcohol testing and wellbeing programs
* Conduct audits and ensure ongoing system effectiveness and certification
* Maintain controlled documents, systems and reporting platforms related to health and safety
Essential Experience / Capabilities
* Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety
* Extensive experience in a senior Health and Safety leadership role
* Strong working knowledge of WHS legislation and ISO 45001
* Proven ability to influence safety culture and behavioural change
* Experience auditing and managing safety management systems
* Strong data analysis, reporting and communication skills
* ICAM (or comparable) investigation training
Desirable
* Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
