Position Type: Permanent Full Time (10 day fortnight, 38 hours/week)
Salary Range: Base Salary $33.65 per hour + super, plus overtime and penalty rates dependent on work performed. Additional entitlements and overtime do not form part of the advertised base salary

The Stuart Waste Facility is Townsville City Council’s largest waste facility which accepts residential and commercial wastes. The site practices resource recovery and waste diversion of recyclable materials where possible. The site consists of a weighbridge, active landfill, transfer station, laydown / storage area and resource recovery area. This is an extremely busy site and requires individuals to be physically capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
We’re looking for someone to work at the waste facility who takes pride in correct waste management and can confidently operate Heavy Rigid trucks in a safe and compliant manner. The successful applicant must demonstrate respectful customer service behaviour and a desire to learn about compliant waste industry operations. The Position Will Provide Services That Includes:
* Customer service.
* Litter management and supervision of recycling processes. This includes manual litter picking.
* Erecting of litter fences.
* Monitoring and starting wastewater pumps and associated valving.
* Setting up pumps and associated lay flat hosing.
* Filling of water truck from onsite collection ponds and quick fill tank.
* Maintenance of the site signage.
* Supervision of the public at the Transfer Station when required.
* Operation of the water truck, tipper truck and other applicable vehicles/plant.
* Assisting the leading hand to ensure all tasks on the site are completed.
* Maintain storage areas onsite.
* Assisting operators in carting materials (soil, aggregate etc.) around site.
Qualifications And Experience
Our ideal candidate will have:
* HR licence (mandatory).
* Construction White Card (mandatory).
* Working knowledge of the operating requirements of the water truck and selected waste disposal plant and equipment including minor servicing and associated operational checks.
* Experience in operating a water truck on sites which have operational plant and other heavy vehicle movements.
* Experience in carting material such as soil, aggregate or similar.
* Sound communication skills verbally and via UHF.
* Excellent customer service skills.
* Ability to operate, maintain and clean the transfer station and associated facilities.
* Assist customers to utilise facilities to maximise waste diversion.
* Suitable computer skills to operate weighbridge software and associated technology.
* Experience in the waste management/disposal industry (desirable).
* Additional plant tickets (Rii) (Front End Loader, Bulldozer, Compactor, excavator) are also highly desirable in candidates.
