ABOUT THE ROLE
We're seeking a Experienced Boiler Maker/ Steel Shop Foreman to join our Yandina workshop. This full‑time position provides long term stability, consistent hours, and an immediate start. In this leadership role, you'll supervise a team of boilermakers and welders, coordinate daily workshop activities and ensure all fabrication and repair work meets Cordwells' high standards. You will also perform a variety of fabrication and maintenance tasks that contribute directly to the quality and reliability of our workshop operations. This role is based in Yandina, QLD – applicants should live locally or be willing to relocate.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead, supervise and mentor a team of boilermakers, welders and workshop assistants.
Allocate daily tasks, set priorities and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
Conduct toolbox talks and ensure safety procedures and SWMS are followed.
Fabrication & Welding
Perform high‑quality welding and fabrication (MIG, TIG, stick) in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
Fabricate, repair and modify steel components, truck bodies, frames, hoppers and machinery parts.
Assess welded structures and components for accuracy, quality and compliance.
Maintenance & Repair
Identify mechanical issues, structural wear, cracks or defects and implement effective repair solutions.
Conduct pre‑start inspections and ensure tools and equipment remain in safe working condition.
Quality & Safety Compliance
Monitor workshop safety, including housekeeping, equipment checks and hazard identification.
Maintain accurate maintenance, fabrication and safety records.
Assist the Workshop Manager with continuous improvement initiatives.
Workflow, Communication & Coordination
Coordinate daily workflow between the workshop, steel shop, quarry/concrete divisions and site personnel.
Communicate job progress, delays or resource needs effectively to management.
Manage job sheets, parts ordering, and ensure projects are completed on time.

* Cert III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (or equivalent)
* Ability to work independently and guide a small team
