We are seeking to establish a pool of Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers for permanent and fixed‐term, full‐time and part‐time vacancies that may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Avonvale Primary School (PS) is a small community‐based school beginning its journey of implementing the Berry Street Education Model.

About the School

Avonvale PS provides enriched learning opportunities for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and is committed to developing a sense of belonging and collective outcomes.

The Role

The Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) fosters a supportive and inclusive learning environment for Aboriginal students. The AIEO acts as a liaison between the school and community, working closely with teachers, students and families to develop culturally relevant educational programmes. Key responsibilities include:

* Developing and implementing culturally appropriate educational programmes.
* Providing mentorship and pastoral care to Aboriginal students to support participation and achievement.
* Engaging in general tasks such as administrative duties, guiding students in life skills, managing classroom resources and assisting with behaviour management plans for students at risk.

Eligibility

Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under section 50d of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA). Only Aboriginal applicants will be considered.

* Essential citizenship status: Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or eligible visa for the term of the appointment.
* Valid Working With Children Check.
* Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and having a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit.
