Aboriginal Cultural Health Practitioner

The Aboriginal Cultural Health Practitioner role is an Aboriginal Identified position and is only open to applicants who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

Maaruma - Li Aboriginal Corporation Aboriginal Medical Service (Maaruma - Li AMS) is an establishing, culturally strong, community - controlled organisation who will be providing comprehensive primary health care, social and emotional wellbeing services, community programs and Integrated Domestic, Family Violence Services (IDFVS) for Aboriginal people in Coonabarabran and other communities across the Warrumbungle LGA.

We are growing and we're looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, and community -minded Aboriginal Administration Officer to join our team. This role is central to ensuring our clinic runs smoothly and that every client receives a warm, respectful, and culturally safe welcome.

About the Role

We are seeking an Aboriginal Cultural Health Practitioner to play a central role in embedding Culture across our programs, services, community engagement and outreach. This position supports individuals and families to strengthen Cultural identity, connection, and belonging, while guiding staff and service partners to uphold Cultural LORE, protocols, respect and cultural safety.

Key Responsibilities:


• Primary Role: Cultural Practitioner.


• Advocacy: Assist IDFVS clients with accessing other providers, organising resources, referrals for medical treatment, housing assistance, legal representation, referrals and brokerage support.


• Complaints: Make certain that verbal and written complaints are addressed and followed up, and ensure all clients remain Culturally safe in the process.


• Program Co-ordination: Co-ordinate the day-to-day operations of the IDFVS program, including case co-ordination, case management, and brokerage services.


• Service Delivery: Provision of Culturally safe, tailored, holistic services and programs to clients of the IDFVS program, who are or have been affected by domestic and family violence. Ensure all services and programs are aligned with IDFVS Program Specifications, Good Practice Guidelines and all relevant legislation.


• Client Assessments: Intake processes, Assess clients, Triage, point in time (DVSAT), needs assessment, immediate safety planning.


• Reporting: Complete Incident and Mandatory Reporting included in the IDFVS Governance Compendium and onboarding pack


• Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain strong partnerships with

Maaruma – Li AMS Board, Elders, community, clients and key stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and the local Aboriginal community.


• Policy and Procedure: Develop, implement, and review policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the IDFVS contract, relevant legislation, and best practice guidelines.


• Strong attention to detail and confidence using computers, experience with Client Information Management System (CIMS), and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database systems (willingness to be trained), and Microsoft Office


• Governance: Work in accordance with Maaruma – Li AMS Governance Compendium, Complaints and Risk Controls.


• Reporting and Compliance: Ensure all reporting and data collection requirements of the NSW Department of Communities and Justice are met in a timely and accurate manner.


• Community Engagement: Develop and deliver Culturally safe education, awareness, training to promote the IDFVS Cultural Health program and address domestic and family violence in the community.

Cultural Safety, Planning and Community Governance: Ensure Cultural authority, safety and respect is given to Maaruma - Li AMS CEO, Board, clients and community. To ensure that all services are respectful of Cultural values, community and cultural protocols.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

1. Provide Cultural knowledge, guidance and client centered support focusing on Cultural Health and Healing.

2. Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience with Gamilaraay/Gomeroi/Kamilaroi Cultural LORE and practices

1. Aboriginal identity with strong Cultural community connections across Gamilaraay/Gomeroi/Kamilaroi Country.

4. Demonstrated experience in Cultural knowledge, teaching, facilitation, storytelling, community engagement, SEWB support, with the ability to guide and educate in Culturally respectful ways.

5. Knowledge of Social and Emotional Wellbeing principles and trauma -informed, Culturally safe practice.

6. Strong communication skills and the ability to build respectful relationships with clients, families, staff, Elders, and community.

7. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, showing adaptability, resilience, and a commitment to community - led healing, programs and services.

8. Knowledge and/or experience working with Domestic, Family Violence and Trauma informed Care.

Mandatory:

1. Working With Children Check (WWCC).

2. National Police Check (NPC).

3. Drivers Licence.

4. First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain).

Desirable:

1. Relevant Cultural knowledge and Health qualifications.

2. Experience working in or with an AMS, health service and/or Aboriginal community organisation or groups.

3. Knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and Families with Domestic and Family Violence, mental health and drug and alcohol and Cultural Programs.

4. Local knowledge demonstrated experience and current partnerships with the following local Aboriginal Communities, Coonabarabran, Baradine, Binnaway, Coolah, Dunedoo and Mendooran.
