The Opportunity
As an experienced leader, you will play a key role as an Engineering Manager to lead a versatile team of experienced Microsoft Azure engineers to design, develop and maintain a healthy, secure and high-available well-governed Azure cloud platform across the Tasman.
This is a role for a technologist with a strong background in Azure cloud as well as integration infrastructure engineering who can apply their experience and knowledge to manage a strong engineering team and lead the development and maintenance of the platforms via implementation of standards and automation. In this role you will have the opportunity to sharpen these skills while evangelising and developing new capabilities that are critical to the organisation’s technology strategy.
What you'll do
- Lead and Inspire: Guide, mentor, and inspire a team of Azure Cloud Platform Engineers across Australia and New Zealand, fostering a culture of collaboration and shared passion for delivering exceptional outcomes.
- Strategy and Roadmap: Work closely with the Technical Product Manager and other stakeholders to define the squad's roadmap, refine priorities, and allocate resources.
- Technical Excellence: Ensure strong practices in efficient computing, SecOps (Security Operations), and FinOps (Financial Operations) are maintained.
- Standards and Alignment: Work closely with Architects and Engineers to ensure alignment on patterns and standards.
- Team Development: Coach and assist engineers to uplift capability and spread domain knowledge.
- Data-Driven Culture: Foster a Culture of Experimentation & Data-Driven Decision-Making, encouraging hypothesis testing and using data and insights to inform strategy and measure success.
- Optimisation: Evaluate all platform and service consumption to optimise costs and bring best practices into the delivery cycle.
What you'll bring
- Technology Trend Monitoring: Bring thought-leadership in relation to how technology is being leveraged across in the industry
- Architecture and Software Design: Excellent grasp on “well architected” and “well designed” cloud solutions so that you can lead the outcome. You will be able to guide the team in the right direction
- Excellent Communication & Collaboration: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey vision, strategy, and roadmaps to stakeholders at all levels, fostering a shared understanding and buy-in.
- Data-Driven Decision Maker: Strong analytical skills and a data-driven approach to decision-making, using data and insights to inform product strategy, prioritisation, and measure success
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrate a strong technical understanding of the platforms/products within the sub domain
- Cloud Platform Expertise: Expert in Azure core services, cloud computing aspects (IaaS, PaaS, serverless, scalability, networking, storage, security).
- Containerisation & Orchestration: Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes for application deployment and management.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Automation: Proven experience in tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, and CI/CD pipelines for automating infrastructure and deployments.
- Experience with the following Tech Stack:
- API Gateway
- Workload optimisation for performance, cost, security
- Application and Hosting Security
- GraphQL Technologies
- DevSecOps
- Observability Platforms
