Role
An Education Support Class - ES1 Range 3 employee works under general supervision and performs routine tasks consistent with established guidelines, accepted practice and school policy.
The Maintenance/Grounds role supports the wellbeing and safety of the school community by undertaking routine grounds, gardening and basic facilities maintenance tasks. The role includes scheduled maintenance duties and responding to maintenance and safety needs as directed.
The position reports directly to the Principal and works under the direction of the Principal or Facilities Coordinator.
Responsibilities
Hours of attendance
* Hours of duty: 7:15am - 3:21pm daily
(7.6 hours per day, including a 30 minute unpaid lunch break)
* Holiday attendance:
* One day during the April, July, September and December/January school holidays
* An additional day may be required during the December/January holiday period, subject to operational needs
Responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to:
* Daily cleaning of school grounds, including rubbish collection
* Perform routine gardening, landscaping and seasonal maintenance tasks
* Assist with the maintenance of garden beds, lawns and outdoor areas
* Maintain sheds, storerooms and outdoor workspaces in a clean and safe condition
* Carry out basic repairs and general maintenance tasks as directed
* Preparation and painting of interior and exterior surfaces
* Graffiti removal
* Safe operation, cleaning and storage of tools and equipment in accordance with instructions
* Identify and report Occupational Health and Safety issues to the Principal or Facilities Coordinator
* Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and comply with OHS requirements
* Safely move furniture and equipment, including setup and pack-down for school events
* Minimise disruption to classrooms when undertaking maintenance tasks, particularly when using noisy equipment
* Assist with the collection and transport of supplies, tools or materials as directed (may include off-site travel, e.g. Bunnings)
* Assist with compliance for scheduled inspections (e.g. tree audits, facility audits, asbestos and mechanical equipment)
* Assist with the operation of locks and alarm systems as required
* Ensure work areas are left clean, safe and orderly
* Undertake required online training modules and hearing testing
* Undertake any other duties as directed by the Principal, consistent with the ES1 Range 3 classification
Note: This role does not include autonomous decision-making, independent coordination of budgets or staff, or strategic planning responsibilities.

Location Profile
Sherbourne PS opened in 1971 and is located in Briar Hill serving the surrounding communities of Briar Hill, Montmorency, Greensborough and Eltham. Sherbourne Primary School is part of the Banyule-Nillumbik Network of schools in the North Western Victoria Region.
The school resides on spacious natural grounds with modern classrooms and facilities including the provision of attractive rooms for all specialist areas. The main building includes the administration office, classrooms, and staff areas. A library, gym/hall and outdoor deck areas provide additional learning areas. There have been recent upgrades to the oval, along with new shade sails and toilets.
In 2024 the enrolment is 59 students, organized into 4 composite classes & one Prep/1 class, one year 2/3 class, one 4/5 class and one 5/ 6 class. Teachers work in P-3 and 4-6 teams. Sherbourne has 12.4 equivalent full-time staff including 1 Principal Class, 4.6 teachers and 6.8 EFT education support staff.
