Job Title: ANZ Head of Logistics Operations Position Location: Scoresby, Victoria, Australia Number of Direct Reports: 4-6 Position Summary: This role will be responsible for Thermo Fisher Scientific's Australian and New Zealand Distribution and Logistics organizations driving performance to optimize our end to end customer experience and deliver on our commercial commitments. This position has overall responsibility for distributions and logistics with a strong focus on quality, cost control, and safety across all ANZ warehouse locations. This position is vital for ensuring business performance is met as a member of the ANZ Operations Leadership Team. As the PPI Leader, this role will lead the development and implementation of a Practical Process Improvement (PPI) strategy and roadmap for the overall ANZ Business Unit. The PPI Leader will drive continuous improvement initiatives, using Lean Six Sigma, and other methodologies to achieve operational excellence, cost savings, and process efficiencies within the wider operations and commercial functions. This role will be responsible for the ANZ sustainability strategy and champion the implementation of sustainable practices to achieve the organizational goals. Key Responsibilities: Logistics Operations: Develop and drive a warehouse management, distribution and international logistics strategy focused on operational excellence and customer engagement that aligns with the overall business strategy. Lead and drive Key Performance Indicators that will enable organizational vitality. Provide a comprehensive monthly report on customer feedback, activity, KPl's and improvement initiatives. Responsible for understanding and communicating with senior leadership key relevant market conditions, regulatory changes and operating metrics. Partner with key collaborators to ensure maximum utilization and efficiency of available resources. Develop and lead an impactful team and a culture of excellence. Instill a culture of bias for action and accountability. Partner with collaborators to enable effective forecasting & inventory planning with oversight of planning parameters that drive annual replenishments across Distribution centers. Drive a culture focused on continuous improvement using Daily Accountability, Tiered Daily Management, PPI Methodology and 5 S. Define decision support/action-based tools to proactively identify and act upon supply chain issues such as poor service levels, shipments from secondary DC's and stock-outs. Drive improved effectiveness of SIOP process through sharing of leading practices and implementation of standards. Engage with and coach distribution teams to ensure proper actions are being taken to improve process results. Partner with EHS to drive a safety culture across Australia and New Zealand. Work with the APAC Warehousing & Distribution team to develop new initiates, strategies and solutions for process improvement and cost optimization. Inspire organizational change across the distribution and logistics organization. Lead key relationships with logistic organizations. Responsible for supervising logistics contract management and negotiations. Expected travel requirements: 15 - 20%. Continuous Improvement: Implement a PPI (Practical Process Improvement) strategy and roadmap for the distribution and logistics functions. Lead and facilitate PPI projects to drive process improvements, cost savings, and operational efficiencies within the distribution and logistics operations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities, using PPI principles and methodologies. Analyze data and metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement, applying PPI to drive sustainable change. Establish and maintain PPI performance metrics and dashboards to supervise progress and communicate results to senior leadership. Drive a culture of problem-solving and root cause analysis, encouraging the use of PPI tools such as DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control). Collaborate with partners to ensure PPI initiatives are aligned with business goals and objectives. Frequent Contacts: Internal: ANZ Senior Leadership Team Customer Care Procurement Commercial Organization Finance Technical Services External: Customers Third Party Suppliers Logistics and Freight Organizations Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Industrial Engineering, or related field is preferred. 7 years of warehousing, distribution and international logistics experience, including 5 years in a leadership role in a high complexity environment. Experience operating at a senior management level and being a member of a leadership group is preferred. Demonstrated track record in shifting business performance from a low to a high sustainable performance, in tough circumstances. Strong PPI, Lean and or Six Sigma working experience with demonstrated achievement of continuous improvement through utilization of Lean tools. Experience in leading teams of managers and individual contributors, with a track records of attracting and developing talent, developing bench strengths and managing a complex, diverse and dispersed workforce. Experience managing Third Party Logistics. Skills & Attributes: Strong leadership skills to inspire and empower teams, provide clear direction, and deliver results. Critical thinking and ability to develop and implement long-term plans aligned with business strategy. Proficiency in operational excellence to optimize warehousing and logistics processes. Excellent communication and social skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners. Knowledge of supply chain management principles and practices, including procurement, demand planning, and inventory control. Adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, adopt new technologies, and navigate through challenges successfully. In-depth knowledge and experience in PPI methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, DMAIC, and Kaizen. Successfully leading and implementing PPI initiatives in a sophisticated distribution and logistics environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply PPI tools and methodologies to drive sustainable improvements. Excellent project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and lead multiple projects simultaneously. Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and inspire teams to adopt PPI principles and motivate change. Ability to optimally collaborate and establish relationships at all levels of the organization. Continuous learning mentality, staying updated on leading PPI practices and industry trends. Strong data analysis and interpretation skills, with proficiency in using data management tools and ERP systems. Ability to work in a global and matrixed organization, navigating through decentralized structures.
