The Opportunity
An opportunity exists for an experienced lawyer to join our in‐house Legal Team on a part‐time basis (approximately three days per week). The successful candidate will work within a centralised management team that provides corporate and strategic services to the Smile Solutions Group dental practices together with a number of associated healthcare and start‐up ventures.
This role offers the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership in a commercial, fast‐moving healthcare environment, contributing across a wide range of legal and strategic matters.
We are seeking a commercially minded legal professional who enjoys variety, autonomy and working closely with decision‐makers. The role would suit a senior associate or experienced in‐house lawyer seeking a long‐term, flexible position that remains professionally engaging and intellectually stimulating, without the demands of a traditional full‐time legal role.
The position reports directly to the Managing Director and operates with a high degree of trust and autonomy, while being supported by external legal advisors where specialist input is required. The role also has the support of a junior member of the legal team (currently a full‐time law student).
Key Responsibilities
* Overseeing and continuing to develop the organisation's internal legal function
* Advising across a broad range of areas including health law and regulatory compliance, commercial contracts, property and leasing, intellectual property, employment law, privacy, consumer law and general corporate matters
* Drafting, reviewing and assisting with negotiation of agreements with commercial partners and stakeholders
* Developing and maintaining template documentation including employment agreements, policies and procedures, property leases and commercial terms and conditions
* Working collaboratively with the Clinical Manager and Practice Managers to strengthen operational processes and compliance frameworks
* Providing clear and practical guidance to senior management on legal and regulatory requirements
* Supporting the Managing Director on strategic initiatives, projects and commercial negotiations
* Managing relationships with external legal advisors where specialist expertise is required
* Providing pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice across the organisation
About You
* Admission to practise law in Australia with an unrestricted practising certificate
* Approximately 4–8+ years post‐admission experience in private practice or in‐house (or equivalent experience)
* Broad commercial legal capability with the confidence to manage matters across multiple areas of law
* Strong drafting, negotiation and communication skills
* The ability to exercise sound judgement and provide practical, solutions‐focused advice
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
* A collaborative and approachable working style, with the ability to engage effectively across different areas of the business
* A pragmatic and commercially oriented mindset
The Role
This is a part‐time position, ideally suited to a candidate available to work approximately three days per week, with flexibility around how those days are structured.
The role offers the opportunity to remain engaged in high‐quality legal work while maintaining a balanced professional schedule, with direct exposure to strategic decision‐making and the commercial operations of a growing healthcare organisation.
