ROCK MECHANICS ENGINEER
Fosterville Gold Mine invites suitably qualified and experienced individuals to apply for the position of Rock Mechanics Engineer. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure underground operations are conducted and maintained in accordance with the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP).
Reporting to the Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer, your duties will include:
* Conduct regular underground visits to maintain a sound working knowledge of current ground conditions.
* Conduct underground inspections in all development and production areas.
* Complete ground condition assessments.
* Ensure ground control is installed to standard. Use underground inspections and other forums as opportunities to engage with operations personnel on relevant geotechnical issues.
* Attend and contribute to daily catch-up meetings and weekly planning meetings to share learnings with teams and ensure geotechnical inputs and deliverables are understood.
* Conduct a timely response to hazard cards and other identified changes to ground conditions.
* Assist with the maintenance of a robust geotechnical performance database and helping with pull testing, monitoring installation, as well as installation, testing and monitoring of new ground control trial products.
* Carry out damage mapping, structural mapping and geotechnical interpretation.
* Support Mining Engineers with review of development designs and stope notes.
* Support Backfill Engineers with preparation, review and issuing of backfill plans.
The successful candidate should possess the following:
* Geotechnical Engineering Degree or equivalent qualifications in Engineering Geology (or relevant professional experience).
* Previous experience in underground geotechnical engineer roles desirable.
* Skilled in mine planning software (Deswik), geotechnical software (Rocscience suite desirable) and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Outlook).
* Sound understanding of underground work methods and procedures along with a strong commitment to safe work practices.
* Possess strong planning and organisational skills.
* Have effective communication skills and be able to work well within a team environment.
The roster for this residential position will be 8/6, working 12 hour shifts.
