Position summary
Join our dynamic team as a Senior Estimator, where you'll take charge of costing work scopes and ensuring pricing submissions align with our business's capability, capacity, and margin requirements. In this pivotal role, you'll leverage your proven experience in cost estimation, quantity surveying, and tender preparation to accurately assess labour costs, material inputs, and subcontract expenses whilst applying appropriate mark-ups that meet company margin expectations. Your strong analytical thinking and attention to detail will be essential as you close out technical queries, determine delivery timelines in collaboration with production teams, and ensure all quotations are submitted within customer response time expectations. Utilising your proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel, you'll maintain process compliance, deliver positive direct material and subcontract cost outcomes, and provide mentoring to estimators under your guidance. Your excellent communication skills will enable you to foster valuable long-term customer relationships, liaise effectively with internal stakeholders across production and QA departments, and manage external relationships with suppliers, contractors, and third-party advisors. About the role
* Prepare accurate cost estimates for customer quotation requests, ensuring alignment with company capability, capacity and margin requirements.
* Assess technical specifications and close out queries prior to pricing submissions to ensure complete work scope understanding.
* Determine material and subcontractor costs accurately in accordance with company processes and procedures.
* Calculate labour costs and apply appropriate mark-ups to achieve company margin expectations.
* Coordinate with production teams to establish realistic lead times based on organisational capacity.
* Submit quotations to customers within expected response timeframes whilst maintaining quality and accuracy.
* Build and maintain strong customer relationships through consistent service delivery and effective communication.
* Supervise and mentor estimators, providing performance feedback and supporting their professional development.
* Ensure compliance with company processes and procedures, completing required reporting and analysis.
* Identify continuous improvement opportunities within the estimation function and contribute to strategic initiatives.
* Liaise with internal stakeholders including production and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless project handover.
* Manage supplier and subcontractor relationships to achieve cost outcomes at or below estimated figures.
About the candidate
* Proven track record in cost estimation for construction, engineering or manufacturing projects with demonstrated ability to deliver accurate pricing within margin expectations.
* Strong technical knowledge of quantity surveying, tender preparation and material costing methodologies.
* Advanced proficiency in estimating software platforms and Microsoft Excel for complex cost analysis and reporting.
* Experience managing estimating teams with ability to mentor, review performance and develop junior estimators.
* Exceptional attention to detail with analytical thinking skills to assess work scopes, identify technical queries and ensure complete cost inputs.
* Strong customer relationship management skills with proven ability to meet quotation response timeframes and build lasting client partnerships.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to liaise effectively with production teams, suppliers, contractors and external stakeholders.
* Demonstrated capability in supplier and subcontractor negotiation to achieve favourable material and labour cost outcomes.
