Position Summary
Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is an Aboriginal community-controlled or-ganisation, providing services and running social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aborigi-nal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.
The Supporting Healing for Families (SHFF) Program is a collaborative initiative designed to support indi-viduals, families and communities, impacted by child sexual abuse, through culturally informed healing practices. This initiative, based with the Tangentyere Family Violence Prevention Program team, supported by SNAICC, and in collaboration with local partners such as Central Australian Aboriginal Congress, focuses on raising community awareness, empowering community members, fostering cultural reconnection and both-ways support for healing and recovery.
The four elements of the Mparntwe/Alice Springs SHFF healing service model will include:
•Community awareness to address stigma and shame and to prevent child sexual abuse through com-munity-led education and public health campaigns that enable communities to identify and respond to child sexual abuse and promote individual and collective healing.
•Empowering community members through community-developed leadership programs that enable women, men, and young people to lead campaigns to address stigma and shame and to prevent and respond to child sexual abuse and to promote collective healing.
•Reconnection and healing through culture to strengthen relationships and support structures within fami-lies and communities so that victims and survivors of child sexual abuse are secure and supported within their communities.
•Both-ways support for individual and family recovery through therapeutic practices and traditional cultur-al practices.
The SHFF Program aims to strengthen community resilience, support safe family environments, and align with Closing the Gap targets by embedding trauma-informed, culturally safe practices.
As part of your role, you will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnera-ble. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.
Responsibilities
•Co-design the Supporting Healing for Families (SHFF) Program with Aboriginal community leaders to inform the ongoing program design and delivery.
•Support access to culturally appropriate support for individuals, families and communities impacted by child sexual abuse including tailored therapeutic responses and collective healing camps.
•Coordinate community awareness initiatives to address stigma and shame of child sexual abuse through community-led education campaigns.
•Empower community members through community leadership with knowledge to prevent and respond to child sexual abuse.
•Coordinate the planning and delivery of support for individual and family recovery through therapeutic practices and traditional cultural practices.
•Provide high quality ethical and professional judgement regarding risk and safety for women, children and men attached to the program.
•Prepare, collect, and disseminate data and reports for SNAICC and for evaluation purposes.
•Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.
•Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.
•Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.
•Other reasonable duties as required.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
Required
•Demonstrated experience in utilizing a trauma-informed care approach to working with individuals, fami-lies and communities impacted by domestic, family and/or sexual violence and/or child sexual abuse.
•Demonstrated experience working from a strength-based, culturally responsive and inclusive way with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities.
•Demonstrated skills and experience in co-designing community-led education and awareness cam-paigns.
•Experience in supporting the co-design and delivery of culturally responsive activities and/or events.
•Strong community engagement skills in individual, family, and group settings.
•Excellent communication skills with the ability to positively engage with build relationships with clients, stakeholders and partners.
•The ability to engage with Central Australian Aboriginal people.
•Demonstrated strong administration skills including data basis and spreadsheets relevant to the program work. These include the Microsoft programs of outlook, word, excel.
•Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.
Desirable
•Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, community development or related field and/or equiva-lent relevant experience.
•Specific experience working with people impacted by child sexual abuse.
•Current First Aid Certificate, or ability and willingness to attain.
•An understanding of Aboriginal culture as well as a broad range of contemporary issues affecting Central Australian Aboriginal people.
